As both a
professional and a parent of a child with special
needs, I know the system from both ends. I
understand and relate to the difficulties and
frustration of trying to get timely help for your
child but not knowing where to start, and how to
proceed. As your advocate, I will use my knowledge
and experience to help you get the most appropriate
services for your special needs child. The law is on
our side. Let’s use it!
Dealing with school
psychologists, administrators, bureaucrats, special
education teachers, Regional Center case workers and
others isn’t easy. Don’t let them catch you
unprepared. The School Districts and Regional
Centers have limited resources and budgetary
constraints. They will not volunteer information as
to services available to your family, but instead
will wait for you to request them. You need to come
prepared and to know your rights. I will help you
become an ‘informed consumer’.
Whether your child has just been diagnosed, or
you are a veteran of several IEP's, I will lead you
through the system and help you understand the
different aspects of special education. Whether it
is by asking the right questions, getting the
correct assessments, or directing you among the
different agencies, I will take you through the
necessary steps so your child can reach his or her
full potential.
